XML exports

What are XML exports?

XML is a language for the transfer of structured data in a unique fashion enabling automatic processing. XML exports from the State Opera (SO) databases function as a simple XML interface enabling you to receive up-to-date information about the schedule, repertoire and profiles of individual performances and artists.

Who can use XML exports?

Example: An Internet portal featuring a calendar of cultural events in Prague decides to also offer the State Opera’s schedule. One solution to this would be for the portal to request the monthly schedule from the SO and insert it in its own database. However, such solution involves data transfer and compatibility problems, a necessary monthly workload and, last but not least, problems with accuracy as the schedule may change on a daily basis. XML exports provide a more elegant solution because all that is needed is a short script (it may even be integrated into the application of the Internet portal in question) that will automatically make an inquiry with the SO with respect to specific information and the SO will respond with an XML reply for automatic processing. The compatibility of data transferred from the SO will be ensured by the XML document’s permanent structure and the workload involved is a one-time affair only. This arrangement will enable the Internet portal to always have up-to-date information.

Tomáš Vrbka
The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
