Bronislav Roznos

A graduate from the Brno Conservatory. He was briefly engaged at Brno National Theatre Ballet. His interest in modern dance brought him to Prague Chamber Ballet of Pavel Šmok where he stayed for four seasons. He simultaneously studied choreography at the Academy of Music and Drama in Prague. He left Prague Chamber Ballet in 1990 for Germany where he first of all co-operated with Philippe Tallard as soloist of the Ballet in Ulm and then for four years as a ballet soloist in Mannheim. He has been the chief of ballet and chief choreographer of the Theatre in Zwickau (Tanztheater Plauen-Zwickau) since 1995, where he created a number of productions. Čas bolesti / Time of Pain was originally prepared by him as an “ad hoc” project for one week of performances at a derelict gas factory building in Zwickau. In the Czech Republic, Čas bolesti / Time of Pain was first shown with much acclaim at J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen in 2001. This performance is, like all others by Bronislav Roznos, the result of long (since 1994) co-operation with stage designer Robert Schrag.

The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
