Eva Urbanová

Eva Urbanová is now at the pinnacle of her artistic powers. She has appeared repeatedly as a guest with the Metropolitan Opera in New York, having debuted in March 1998 in a new production of Wagner’s Lohengrin in which she sang Ortrud under the baton of James Levine with stage direction by Robert Wilson, then performed Tosca with conductor Nello Santini and stage director Franco Zeffirelli, Santuzza under the baton of Carlo Rizzi, and the Foreign Princess in Rusalka with Andrew Davis conducting. In Toronto she has performed the roles of Leonora, Turandot, and the Kostelnička, in Montreal Gioconda, in Washington the Kostelnička, with the German Opera of Berlin Leonora in La Forza del destino and Gioconda, in Zürich Suor Angelica under the baton of Marcello Viotti, and at the Opéra Bastille in Paris the Foreign Princess under the baton of James Conlon. At Milan’s La Scala she debuted in 1997 as Gioconda alongside José Cura.

The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
