Born in Reggio nell’Emilia, Giorgio Croci first studied violin, then later composition and conducting (with Prof. Franco Ferrara). He works with many Italian symphony and theater orchestras – in Verona (at the Arena), Milan, Venice, San Remo, Reggio di Parma, Torre del Lago, Pisa, Treviso, and Brescia – and in foreign countries has conducted the Berlin Philharmonic, the Slovak Philharmonic, the Prague Sinfonietta, and the symphony orchestras of Graz, Bilbao, and Tokyo as well as orchestras of opera houses including the Berlin Comic Opera, the State Theater in Karlsruhe, and opera companies in Sofia, Budapest, Toulon, Ličge, Lisbon, Dallas, and Mexico City. He has also conducted megaproductions of Aida in Luxor and Giza. He has recorded many concerts and operas for Italian radio and television as well as music of Verdi and Stravinsky for films by directors Herzog and Lattuada. His operatic repertoire includes works of Mozart, Verdi, Bellini, Puccini, Donizetti, Rossini, Bizet, Ponchielli, Boito, Mascagni, Leoncavallo, and Cilea among other composers. His specialty is research in Baroque operas, for example by Pergolesi, Salieri, and Scarlatti.
