Soprano Maria Hee-Sun Kim was born in Korea. She studied at Chung Ang University in the Republic of Korea, and pursued her training at the Béla Bartók Conservatory and the Ferenc Liszt Academy in Budapest. In 2007 she studied at the Fausto Torrefranco Conservatory in Vibo Valentina, Italy, as well as frequenting various master classes, including a course mounted by the Centre for Opera Studies in Sulmona, Italy. She participated in a series of international contests, including the Rolando Nicosi Competition (first prize), the Ottavio Ziino Competition (second prize), the Vincenzo Bellini Competition (third prize), and the P.G. Frassati Competition (second prize). Maria Hee-Sun Kim debuted on the stage at Sulmona, San Severo and other venues in the region of Piemonte, as Violetta (La traviata). She sang opposite Renato Bruson at the Teatro Marruccino di Chieti and the Teatro Giuseppe Verdi di Salerno, as Nannetta (Falstaff). Recently, she made her first successful appearance as Musetta (La bohème). She is a resident artist in the Beseto Opera Company.
