Ingebjørg Kosmo, born in the very northern part of Norway, has quickly established herself as one of Norway’s foremost singers. She started her musical training at the Conservatory in Trondheim. After further studies at the National College of Operatic Art in Oslo, she made her debut as Carmen in Sandefjord 1994. Since the autumn of 1994 she is a soloist at the Norwegian National Opera, where her roles include Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier), the title role in Carmen, Idamante (Idomeneo), Dorabella (Cosi fan tutte), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly), Lola (Cavaleria Rusticana), Bersi (Andrea Chenier) a Emilia (Otello). In the spring of 2000 she had a big personal succes as the Composer in (Ariadne auf Naxos). She has also sung Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus and 2nd Lady in The Magic Flute in Bodø, and 1st Lady in The Magic Flute in Trondheim. In April of 2000 she made her debut at the Royal Opera in Stockholm as Carmen. She regularly sings with several of Scandinavia’s leading orchestras and has appeared at numerous festivals. Engagements include Bach’s Christmasoratorio and Mass in B minor in Oslo, Bodø and Mosjøen, Brahm’s Alto Rhapsody in Oslo, Mozart’s Requiem in Oslo, Stockholm, Gavle and with The Stavanger Symphony Orchestra. She has sung Mozart’s Mass in C minor with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, and in Tromsø, Rossini’s Stabat Mater in Karlstad and Moss, Progress’s Stabat Mater in Bodø and Narvik, Vivaldi’s Gloria in Tønsberg, Samuel Barber’s Knoxville, Summer of 1915 in Bodø and Vadsø, Bruckners’ Te Deum in Oslo Cathedral, Mendelsohn’s Elijah in Trondheim, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 i Bodø, and Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis in Oslo. At the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam she has sung Pernille in Carl Nielsens Maskerade and she has participated in a Gala concert celebrating Pieter G. Alferink. In march of 2000 she sang Händel’s Messiah in Trondheim with the soprano Emma Kirkby. Ingebjørg Kosmo has been awarded the Ruud-Award in 1993, Esso-Award in 1995 and Flagstad-Award in 1997.
