Marian Vojtko

A graduate from Žilina Conservatory, also studied opera singing at the Academy of Music, Drama and Fine Arts in Bratislava with professor Eva Blahová, Master courses in Germany (Mitte Europa with professor Thomas Thomaschek), in the Netherlands (Holland Music Session) and Austria (Baden with professor Eva Blahová). During his career, he performed at Košice State Theatre and Prague State Opera. In August 2003 Marián Vojtko sang Don Ottavio as a guest at the Estates Theatre in Prague and has been a permanent guest artist of the Moravian-Silesian National Theatre in Ostrava. Marián Vojtko’s repertory includes Count of Almaviva (Rossini’s The Barber of Seville), Serse (Händel’s Serse), Baron Adolf (Janáček’s The Beginning of a Romance), Pang (Puccini’s Turandot). In 2002 the artist performed in Salieri’s La Passione di Gesu Cristo, which was given at the Easter Festival in Brno. In the same year, he sang a tenor part in Carmina burana in Port, Portugal. Marián Vojtko co-operates with soprano Eva Urbanová.

He can be currently seen singing the role of Tamino (The Magic Flute) at the Moravian-Silesian National Theatre in Ostrava. The first musical Marián Vojtko played in was A Little Night Music by S. Sondheim. Then he sang the role of the Priest and Stephen in Dracula. He played the main role in Slovak production of The Pied Piper musical, Angel in the Grease, and Caesar and Marcus Antonius in Cleopatra staged at Nová scéna in Bratislava. His title role in Monte Cristo musical was highly acclaimed. Marián Vojtko gave concerts in England, Portugal, the Netherlands, Germany and other countries.

The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
