Not related to the famous soprano Gabriela Benackova, Marta Benackova is a native of Bratislava. Recently she has been specializing in concert singing, which often brings her to the capital city of the Czech Republic for performances with the Czech Philharmonic, the Prague Symphony, and the Czech Radio Orchestra. Besides performing she also devotes herself to teaching at the Bratislava Conservatory, and in the international performance courses in Piestany she serves as an assistant to Magdalena Hajossyova. Roles she has performed with the Prague State Opera include the clairvoyant Ulrica in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera under the baton of Martin Turnovský with the Swedish stage director C. Fellbom and the title role of Orlando in Vivaldi’s Orlando Furioso.

The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
