Michael Keprt

Repetiteur

Michael Keprt graduated from the Academy of Music in Prague in conducting (studying with Radomil Eliška and František Vajnar) and composition (Ivan Kurz). He participated in the Prague Bach Academy in 1991 and 1992 with Helmut Rilling, and in master classes in Vienna in 1993 with Hans Graf. For three seasons he worked as assistant chorusmaster at the Music Theater in Karlín. He has collaborated with various orchestral and vocal ensembles including the Hradec Králové Philharmonic, the Teplice State Philharmonic, Musici di Praga, Kühn Children’s Choir. Since 1992 he has been chorusmaster of the Prague Smetana Choir, and since 1994 of the Prague Teachers’ Singing Association, with which has appeared in concert many times both at home and abroad (in Great Britain, France, and the USA). His own compositional output includes works in a relatively wide range of genres – vocal, chamber, and orchestral (Trittico Sinfonico, chamber operas Ganga’s Shores and Bride of Corinth etc.). Since 1997 he had been chorusmaster in the Prague State Opera, since the season 2002/2003 he has worked here as conductor (Nabucco, Rigoletto, La traviata, Un ballo in maschera, La Bohème). 1997 he started as chorusmaster in the Prague State Opera and 2002–2009 he acted as conductor. Since the season 2009/2010 he works as repetiteur.

The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
