Miho Ogimoto

Soloist of the National theatre ballet

Miho Ogimoto obtained dance schooling at the Sakamoto Ballet Studio in her native Japan, and pursued her studies at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School in Canada. Between 1995 and 1997, she won in the junior category of several ballet contests (Nagoya Ballet Competition, All Japan Ballet Competition, Kyushu & Asia Ballet Competition). She obtained her first professional engagement at the New National Theatre of Tokyo (1999 – 2001), followed by a soloist contract with the Theater Altenburg-Gera in Germany (2001 – 2004), where her creations included the role of Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and a solo part in Boléro. From 2004 – 2009 she was soloist of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, where she danced in John Neumeier’s version of Sylvia, in Jiří Kylián’s Petite Mort, and most notably, in numerous choreographies of the company’s then head, Youri Vámos. Among her highlights in Vámos’ productions were the roles of Queen Eleonora in La Fermosa – The Jewess of Toledo, Tatyana in The Sleeping Beauty – the Czar’s Last Daughter, Myrthe in Giselle, the Chinese woman in The NutcrackerA Christmas Tale, the African girl in Spartacus, or Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. During the 2009/2010 season, she was soloist of the Aalto Ballet Theater Essen, where her creations included the leading role in the company’s production of La Sylphide.

Since the 2010/2011 season soloist of the Prague State Opera ballet company, where she can be seen in the title role of Giselle, as Tatyana in Tchaikovsky’s The Sleeping Beauty – the Czar’s Last Daughter, in the Swan Lake pas de trois, or the Good Fairy in Prokofiev’s Cinderella.

The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
