Sergej Larin

One of the most famous tenors of the present day who was awarded a number of prestigious prizes. He was born in Latvia and studied in Lithuania, but his family comes from Russia. At the beginning of the 90’s he moved to Bratislava. Since his international debut at the Viennese State Opera in 1990 he made his way through to the most prestigious world stages. Ha sang at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, at the Salzburg Festival, at the Milanese La Scalla, at the German State Opera in Berlin, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, at the Paris Opéra Nationale, in Naples, Turin, Florence, the London Covent Garden. His repertory covers the famous tenor roles in the operas Don Carlos, Aida, Adriana Lecouvreur, I Pagliacci, La Fanciulla del West, Carmen, Norma, Tosca, Manon Lescaut, Madame Butterfly, Francesca da Rimini, Turandot, Boris Godunov, Rusalka, Dimitrij and others. Sergej Larin gives regular concerts and was collaborated with famous conductors (Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Chailly, Sir Colin Davis, Christoph Eschenbach, Marek Janowski, Neeme Järvi, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti or Giuseppe Sinopoli). Sergej Larin has recorded Tchaikovsky’s Mazeppa amd Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk – this recording by Deutsche Grammophon was nominated for Grammy in the category of the best opera recording. He participated also in Boris Godunov for Sony, in Skrjabin’s 1st Symphony for Decca, in Liszt’s Faust Symphony for the G. I. B company and recorded recitals for Chandos and Arte Nova.

The Prague State Opera in cooperation with the Slovart publishing house publishes a representative book tracking the history of this significant cultural institution since its opening in 1888 till the end of the 2002/2003 season. The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
