Tomáš Kořínek

A graduate of the Brno Conservatory and the Janáček Academy of Music in Brno, tenor Tomáš Kořínek was born in Vracov, South Moravia. While still a student, he made regular guest appearances in the opera company in Plzeň, becoming a permanent member in 2004. Mr Kořínek holds a number of awards from singing competitions from inside and outside the Czech Republic. In 2004 he was a nominee for the prestigious Czech Thalia Award for Pedrillo in Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail in Plzeň and for Števa in Janáček’s Jenufa in 2009.

Apart from new roles in his home theatre, the previous season took Mr Kořínek to the National Theatre in Brno. In addition to Tamino in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, the tenor’s engagements with that opera company included a highly acclaimed performance as Don Ramiro in Rossini’s Cinderella, and a personal debut as Conte Almaviva in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia; next year, he is expected to appear in Haydn’s Die Schöpfung and Puccini’s Turandot. This season, Mr Kořínek will make his debut in Ostrava, appearing as Fenton in Verdi’s Falstaff. Other notable events have included Ferrando in Mozart’s Così fan tutte with the Prague r Philharmonia under conductor Jiří Bělohlávek, a debut in Janáček’s The Diary of One Who Disappeared at the Opéra Bastille, Paris, a concert production of Die Zauberflöte with the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra, a concert production of Beethoven’s Fidelio with the North Bohemian Philharmonic Teplice, and Bouquet of Flowers, a cantata by Bohuslav Martinů, in which he appeared in a semi-stage production at the 2007 Litomyšl International Opera Festival and at the 2010 Prague Spring festival.

Other engagements this season include a number of remarkable roles in the singer’s home theatre in Plzeň, in addition to concerts with renowned Czech orchestras, and – most notably – guest appearances at the National Theatres in Prague and Brno; his Prague State Opera debut as Tamino is scheduled for October 14, 2010.

Tomáš Kořínek is a leading performer of Baroque music (cooperating with Musica Florea, Collegium Marianum and other ensembles), singing some of the great works by Bach or Händel. Since 1993, he has been with Lipka, a dulcimer band performing Moravian folk music.

The publication called The Prague State Opera – Theatre History in Pictures and Dates is focusing solely on the opera featured at the scene, even though the theatre under various names also served to presentation of drama plays, operettas and ballet. The Prague State opera plans to publish the volumes concentrating on those genres in the next years.
